What a great year this has been. I found out I was pregnant with you, I turned 30, your father and I had our 5th wedding anniversary, and I had you!
The best year ever. I am so excited to see you grow as the next year passes. Happy New Year, baby girl!

Thanksgiving trip
We went to see my side of the family for Thanksgiving, here is a picture of you, your Papaw and your Great Grandma at her house in Centerville, TX.
Kcccchhkk!
This is the sound you make ALL the time now. From the moment you wake up until you go to sleep at night. You aren't saying "goo" or "gow" anymore, those were fun but we have to move along, I guess!
You were 4 months old yesterday. We are having so much fun. It's almost Christmas; you got a jumperoo as your main gift but since you really aren't aware of what is going on, it has been set up for awhile.
We are looking for a house so that you will have a nice place to grow up in. I can't wait to find the perfect one for our family and get started moving. Soon, hopefully.
I love you so much! Here's a picture of you yesterday on your 4 month birthday.

Sleep Song
Isla,
I feel bad for not writing an entry sooner, but I have been busy having so much fun with you!
There are so many things I want to write about you but right now I am just going to talk about one. When you get tired and are fighting sleep you cry a slow, sad cry that sounds like a song. It's really funny and I love it when you do it. It is hard to describe in words but writing this down will help me remember it. You are too silly! Well, I will write another entry soon. I swear!

Sick?
Are you sick, baby? You have been spitting up for the last couple of days. I took you to the doctor yesterday; she said it was reflux. We didn't see your normal doctor, just a different one in the practice. I'm supposed to watch you and see if you get any better/worse and go from there. If it's reflux, they could give you a medicine if it gets really bad but I think we will try switching your formula first.
You do have a slight fever. It was 99.something at the doctor yesterday but they didn't really mention it. It was 98.8 (at the highest, I also got 98.4 and 98.6) under the arm. Under the arm temps are usually slightly lower than your actual temp. I gave you some Tylenol and you are napping on the couch. Please feel better, Isla. I love you!

Oh, Baby!
I'm so behind on writing to you.
Your vaccines went well. You cried, but only for a few minutes, and then your Daddy rocked you and calmed you and you fell asleep and were asleep for the walk home. You did a lot of sleeping that afternoon and by the next morning you were yourself again. We have another round of shots scheduled for you in December. Just remember, it only hurts for a few moments but they will protect you for life!
You have been sleeping through the night, for the most part, for about 3 weeks now! You fall asleep between 9 and 10 and then wake up when Daddy is getting ready for work (usually around 5) and then sleep again until 7 or 8. It's wonderful! I am enjoying the sleep and also enjoying knowing that you are getting the rest you need.
I love you, little girl! :)

Vaccines today!
Today you are getting your first round of vaccines. I am nervous because I don't want to see you cry. I hope it isn't too painful for you but you need these to keep healthy. I love you little girl, you can do it!

This morning
You fell asleep last night at about 9:15 and I put you into your crib. You didn't wake up until sometime between 4:30 and 5:30. I am not sure when you woke up because you were just laying in your crib looking around! You didn't cry at all! Your Daddy was getting ready for work and went in to check on you. You were just laying there, wide-eyed and happy, looking around your room.
You are such a sweet little girl! Daddy woke me up and I went in to give you a bottle. You had the bottle then went back to sleep. So sweet.

A message from Grandma Barbara
Isla Aderyn, what a beautiful name! I adore you! When I found out you were born, I wanted to jump up and down because I was so excited! I met you when you were going on 2 months old. We were in Michigan City, where your Great Grandparents live. I'm your Grandma Barbara and I held you a few times during our visit--those were precious moments for me! Isla, you will grow up faster than any of us can imagine and you will continue to be beautiful, healthy, and strong! I love you!
Some things that you love
- The "tube" shaped light on the ceiling. It doesn't even have to be on for you to smile at it!
- Staring at your flower light in your room during diaper changes (or any time it is on, really)
- Daddy
- Your swing's motor
- The cat picture I wrote about before
- Your play mat (most of the time)
- Trying to figure out how to suck on your hands and everything else

Wow where to begin....
Hi Isla,
It's only been 8 weeks but it feels like it's been forever! Well, let's start from the beginning.
When you were arriving your mom had to have a c-section. I was in the operating room when you arrived. The delivering doctor, Dr Worly, was the first to hold you and he said, "Well there we are, Happy Birthday, sugar!" Then they immediately removed you from the operating room because it was too cold in there for you. I still hadn't seen you at this point and had to wait patiently for them to tell me you were ready to meet me. It felt like forever (but it was only five minutes) before they said I could come out to see you. Little did I know how important the next few minutes of my life would be.
The nurse came into the operating room and told me, "She's ready." I let go of your mom's hand and walked out into the hallway. I turned left and saw a small room with three or four baby beds in it. All of them were empty except one, and that one had a bustle of activity around it. I could see as I walked up a beautiful healthy baby girl laying in the bed crying like crazy with three people in scrubs fussing on her. I thought to myself, "Is that Isla? Is that really my girl right there?" and as I was thinking that one of the people turned and noticed me. She said, "Are you the father?" which I choked out a cracked reply of "Yes" as I walked up. And when I said that word all of a sudden you stopped crying. I walked up to the side of your crib and stood there looking at you in awe. "Your voice soothed her, she recognized it," the nurse told me, "go ahead and touch her, she needs your contact. Put your finger out for her to grab." I did and you did. They asked me then if we had a name picked out and I had trouble speaking again to tell them, "Isla," but I squeezed it out. They took your weight (7 lb, 11.0 oz), wrapped you up tight in a blanket, and put a tiny hat on your head. Then I got to hold you in my arms for the first time. You were still quiet from when I calmed you by speaking.
I carried you into the operating room so your mom could see you. I sat back down next to her as they finished up the surgery. We both stared at you with nothing but love in our eyes and hearts. It was the greatest moment of our lives.

To family members:
Please feel free to leave messages for Isla in the comments. If you have something in particular that you'd like added as a post let Mike or me know and we'll post it for you!
You're Here!
And you've been here for 8 weeks already! WOW! I can't believe it. You are such a fun little girl. I want to remember everything about you growing up, so I'm going to try and put a lot of it on here. You can read it when you grow up and your family can check in and see how you are doing in the meantime. Maybe Daddy will help me too! I have a lot of ideas that I already want to post here.
Right now you are playing on your play mat that your Uncle Justin got you. At 8 weeks, you are starting to get bored. Before, if you would cry I could go to my "list of things" that could be upsetting you. Wet dipe, hungry, too hot, too cold; but now I have to think of other things. You like to sit on our laps facing outward instead of lying down all the time. You've got pretty good head control but you can't support it on your own for more than a few seconds at a time yet, so we have to help you. I love that you are wanting to explore things now!
We have a picture hanging in the hallway of "Chat Noir" that you seem to love. You smile at it if we show it to you. You also really love your swing now, which we were not sure about at first. You would like it sometimes and cry sometimes, but I don't think the swing was *making* you cry, I think you just wanted to be held. There were a few weeks were I could not put you down, even to run to the bathroom! I love cuddling you though, so it was not a burden. Now that you want to be more independent, I am looking back glad that I got to cuddle with you so much. I know we have many cuddles to come.
